Mitchell Beckmann, an alumnus of the Community Music School (CMS) of 51成人猎奇, will begin his studies as a percussion performance major at the Cleveland Institute of Music this fall. His journey from a STOMP!-inspired middle schooler to a conservatory-bound percussionist showcases the transformative power of exceptional mentorship.

Beckmann studied with percussion instructor Michael Faris at CMS from 2022 to 2023, and this relationship proved pivotal to his development. When Beckmann decided to supplement his music classes at Lafayette High School with private lessons, Faris was consistently recommended as "the best for percussion in St. Louis."

Faris recognized Beckmann's exceptional commitment early on. "He wants to make a living as a performer. He's completely committed," Faris noted. Understanding Beckmann's professional aspirations, Faris arranged opportunities beyond traditional instruction, including a private lesson with Christopher Lamb, lead percussionist of the New York Philharmonic. Faris also recommended Interlochen Arts Academy, where Beckmann spent his junior and senior years surrounded by like-minded artists.

Beckmann's acceptance to the Cleveland Institute of Music represents the success of Faris' mentorship. His journey from CMS to one of the country's premier conservatories demonstrates the vital role that community music education plays in nurturing young talent.

The Community Music School community wishes Mitchell Beckmann continued success as he begins this exciting new chapter in Cleveland, where his percussion talents will undoubtedly continue to flourish.

Beckmann will present his senior recital at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the CMS Concert Hall.
